ABOUT GOUDA CHEESE Gouda is named after the city of Gouda in the Netherlands where it was first produced more than 800 years ago. Dutch immigrants brought the proud traditions of Gouda production with them when they settled in the area around Kaukauna, Wisconsin, home of the Arla Foods’ Hollandtown Dairy. Gouda is typically a round cheese, covered with red wax, and features a semi-hard texture with natural rind. It is categorized as a blind cheese with only a few round holes. It has a “nutty” taste with a touch of sweetness and a characteristic fresh-milk-acidity taste.
